jó jó jó!!!! jól!!!
yeb...it's all happening....on the 8th of december i will be arriving in the u of k again....i will be there in the afternoon and will be a happy member of the de vitre street family...fun fun fun! i´m not going to my graduation on the 13th but i´m definately going to celebrate my graduation for the whole week! everyone has to join me in christmas craziness....you can at least watch me in my silly clothes as noel puts it!
hmmmm news....helen was asking about the damn damns.....on the 26th of september i marched down reykjvik city center along with 15ooo other people....we were there at the last moment trying to convince the government of stopping before it's too late...two days later they started flooding.....the weeks before this there was a lot of talk about a report that was written years ago before the decision was made in parlament....the minister of industry (she's an evil witch!) decided that this report was unimportant and that nobody should see it...especially the people making the decision....this report was about how the earth beneath the karahnjukar damn has a lot of volcanic cracks in it.....very wise to build a damn on that! there was lot of arguing and writing in the newspapers...many academics saying that it was likely that the damn would break down just like happened somewhere in south-america a few years ago with a similar sized damn....whatever....after all the government and alcoa are the people who have the power and they don't listen to some crazy people marching...the guy who started the march is a very famous reporter for the national television...he has been reporting about the damns since the beginning and of course he had to do it in a neutral way...he did good research, talked to different people and showed pictures of the affected areas....he was accused of showing pictures that were "too beautiful" and of thereby being not neutral....he wrote a book a few years ago where he talked about the damns from both sides...pro and con.... he never took a stand publicly until now....to keep his job....but he was threatened by all kinds of people....anywho....he came up with the idea that we keep the damn un-flooded as a memoir of a nation brave enough to say stop...he suggested that the damns and tunnels would be used as an amusement park and that we could pay back the money by letting people from all around the world pay for getting there names carved in the damn! haha! great idea....who knows what will happen this winter...people say that there is still time to stop the flooding until next spring....
i was in a meeting here in my town last night..it was a meeting about the potential aluminium smelter next to our town and the effects it has....me and my friend were the only two persons that were against having it here....us against the rest....i felt very frustrated...it seems that all the decisions have been made by some men in dark suits and no one is brave enough to even think about the possibility of disagreeing with it....welllllll......boring and sad topic.....
a great and fun topic!: i went to see the SUGARCUBES!!!! two weeks ago.....o it was so great....big smile and goosebumps all over....i was hearing some of their greatest songs for the first time with icelandic lyrics and it was amaaazing! the songs made so much more sense to me with lyrics about dancing into a mountain and screaming with the ravens! hahah!
welll enough for now...must turn mu attention to my nefue now...he's asking me if he can have 2000 kr. for reading for me....he wants to buy a boz of gross magic! haha! see you guys next week!
