It's all happening....
vow! the flow is certainly flowing fast now...we organised a meeting on the 12th....we had a few chairs and hoped that someone would show up in spite of the very very bad weather....almost 80 people came! the media was there and we got a lot of media attention over the whole weekend...interviews in the main newspapers and tv stations...national radio interview in the following week, people are still writing about it in the papers....our main aim is to get the councils here to have a public vote about the aluminium smelter...we've had a lot of support on that issue....even the editor of Iceland's biggest newpaper wrote in his editorial the day after the meeting that of course people should be allowed to vote on big issues...the mayor of the biggest town here said that there would be no vote, but he has had a lot of criticism for that...politicians writing articles with headlines like: mayor against democracy! So what has happened because of one little meeting is that a space has opened up for a public debate about open and deliberative democracy....isn't that just faaantastic?!
what else has been happening? hmmm....not much....well maybe i just don't notice other things...healthy lifestyle is going well....it has been 30-40 cm snow for more than a week now.... i forgot again about being in the teacher's uni....haha...i'm gonna go swimming at 8 o'clock tomorrow and every day after that....it is soooo difficult to wake up early when it's dark until 10.30....it is much brighter now then in december though...now the sun is going down around 4-5 instead of 2-3 in december....spring will be here soon....and then i will have some company from Lancaster! jeeeiiiii!!! welll gotta go cook something nice and healthy....later dudes....sampai nanta

new year..new number....lots of newness....
I used to listen to a cd called newness ends a lot....think the band was called the new year....I don't agree with the title...I don't think newness ever ends....maybe there is sometimes more newness going on and sometimes less...but it never ends....this new year there is a lot of newness going on in my life.....my phd thing is finally starting to roll...slowly but surely (is that a word? sometimes i have the feeling that i'm just making up words in english..translating some icelandic terms...bleee) when i was in lancaster in december i wrote in my book that i had the feeling that i'm just a drop in a flow...i´m sitting in the backseat and the flow is driving...my flow had been on hold for a while but i had the feeling that soon it would start flowing faster and faster...during christmas everything seemed like it was on pause...and it was a weird weird feeling....like being in a very calm part of a river but knowing that the next part would be fast...then i turned 27 on the 2nd of january...27...2007....i like it....a friend told me the other day that being 27 is a turning point....and i like where i seem to be turning...
my project for the next months is my area Reykjanesskaginn...it's a beautiful lava, volcano, hills and beaches area with lots of geothermal energy spots...some people see this area as a one of a kind natural area that should be protected, other people see it as a well of energy that should be used to fuel aluminium smelters....it looks like my phd is going to start with researching this area..what are the values of these areas, aesthetic and other? what kind of phenomenological and aesthetic experiences do people have of these areas and what are the values of these experiences and so on...
but this area is not only going to be my project in the phd-thing, it's also going to be my project in other ways....tomorrow me and other people are having an open meeting where we are going to discuss the effects of the aluminium smelter plan on the future of this area....we've started a group which has the goals of protecting this area, opening up a discussion in the community about the effects of the aluminium plans and trying to get the councils here to have a public vote about the smelter.... (interested people in iceland if you're reading this, check out http://www.sasudurnesjum.blog.is )
it all fits so nicely together....
another new thing is changing the lifestyle of me and my family...my father had a heart attack last week...we're very lucky and grateful that he's alive and quite well after that... but it's an obvious sign from the flow that things need to change...so i've taken over the kitchen in my parents house..only healthy things available there now...my mother is joining me in my yoga class and slowly but surely...things are changing...
yeb...times they are a changing....and one of the things that i'm planning to change is the frequency of me writing on this blog....help me keep it alive people and tell me what's been going on with you during christmas and new year....sampai nanta my friends...over&out
